]]> The Molteni&C collection designed by Gio Ponti is enriched this year with the D.355.1 hanging bookcase. An object that the great Milanese architect has redesigned several times over the years, it is reissued in the version for his house on Via Dezza in Milan, finished in elm, hand-painted white, 240 or 195 cm in length, with dividers that recall the bookcase present in the Molteni&C catalog since 2013.

]]> Designed by Gio Ponti and produced for Altamira, an American company founded by the nephew of the Spanish designer De Cuevas, it was exhibited in the company’s showroom in New York, alongside furniture by Ico Parisi, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli, Ignazio Gardella, and others. It was selected as one of the most representative exhibitors at the 10th Milan Triennale.

]]> The D154 armchair was designed for one of Gio Ponti’s most personal projects, the Planchart Collectors’ Villa in Caracas (1953-57). It is part of the Gio Ponti Collection, curated by Molteni & C under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati. The architecture reflected ideas he had gathered during his travels in Latin America in 1952-53.

Today, the armchair, which resembles a cozy shell, has a rigid polyurethane frame, a soft polyurethane counterframe, and a cushion, and is upholstered in Molteni & C’s textile range, with the option to differentiate the three component parts. In 2016, this “love chair” won the prestigious Wallpaper Design Awards and became a Molteni & C icon.

]]> Designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair is part of the furnishings of Gio Ponti’s private residence on Via Dezza in Milan. This reissue is produced by Molteni & C based on original drawings from Ponti’s archives. It features a brass frame and is upholstered in either two-tone white and blue leather or “Punteggiato” fabric, designed by Ponti for Rubelli in 1934. The fabric reinterprets the traditional velvet weaving technique, updating it with contemporary patterns such as closely spaced, staggered discs in varying color gradations. Exhibited at the 2012 Salone del Mobile, the D.153.1 chair enriches the Gio Ponti furniture collection.

Designed in various versions between 1952 and 1955, this reissue is based on the original drawings held in the Gio Ponti Archives and is under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati for the Gio Ponti Collection. The elm wood frame is supported by satin-finished brass feet.
