To coincide with Sancal’s 40th anniversary, Silla40 was born. Its distinctive feature lies in its backrests, one for each decade of the brand’s history. Each one is inspired by a key historical moment in furniture design.

The R20 backrest symbolizes the avant-garde and is inspired by Marcel Breuer’s Cesca chair. The R30 backrest pays homage to 1930s Scandinavian design and is inspired by Alvar Aalto’s Chair 69. The R40 backrest represents the organic design of the 1940s and 60s and is inspired by the letter Z. The R70 backrest, in turn, is inspired by the Synthesis 45 chair that Ettore Sottsass designed for Olivetti. The Chair40 combines ash wood with upholstered seats and backrests. The ash is available in any color from our stain chart. For the upholstery, we offer our extensive selection of fabrics.

We admire a tortoise’s longevity and slow gait. Therefore, when Isaac Piñeiro, from the Nadadora studio, accepted the challenge of designing an armchair that would become a well-deserved reward, an object we dream about on our way home, he didn’t hesitate to draw inspiration from this unique animal.

The proposal starts from a shell that embraces us without fear of what others will say, where we can give free rein to the world of letters or to dreams… Its formal simplicity connects and continues with the studio’s tranquil philosophy, although the profusion of available textiles takes it to a much more exuberant dimension.
