The D154 armchair was designed for one of Gio Ponti’s most personal projects, the Planchart Collectors’ Villa in Caracas (1953-57). It is part of the Gio Ponti Collection, curated by Molteni & C under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati. The architecture reflected ideas he had gathered during his travels in Latin America in 1952-53.

Today, the armchair, which resembles a cozy shell, has a rigid polyurethane frame, a soft polyurethane counterframe, and a cushion, and is upholstered in Molteni & C’s textile range, with the option to differentiate the three component parts. In 2016, this “love chair” won the prestigious Wallpaper Design Awards and became a Molteni & C icon.
