Orbital is Ferruccio Laviani’s debut lamp, designed in 1992. A luminous object that furnishes with the force of a sculpture, it is a true icon of lighting design. Its structure is essentially composed of three parts: a mobile tripod, made of laser-cut sheet metal, which supports a lacquered metal stem from which five arms extend, each fitted with a diffuser of screen-printed industrial glass. Each plate has an irregular shape, creating a striking graphic effect, especially in the white version. The colored diffusers, on the other hand, evoke a surrealist drawing when the lamp is off, and the light plays with the mosaic-like stained glass when it is on. The diffusers are satin-finished on the outside to give the color a rich, opaque quality and highlight the shapes, and glossy on the inside to reflect the light.
