MITE
Brand:
Floor lamp with diffused, indirect light. The diffuser is handcrafted and features a Kevlar® cable for the yellow version and a carbon fiber cable for the black version, all wrapped over a fiberglass fabric. The internal stem is made of metal; the brushed steel parabola at the top acts as both a diffuser lock and a light reflector within the diffuser. The base is made of nickel-plated steel, and the transparent cable includes a dimmer switch that functions as both a gradual light intensity regulator and an on/off switch.
The collaboration between Foscarini and Marc Sadler began with Mite, a floor lamp so innovative that it won the Compasso d’Oro in 2001. For Mite, the company and designer developed a special patent: a blend of fiberglass and carbon or Kevlar® yarn, which simultaneously serves as decoration and a supporting structure. This technology, already used in the production of fishing rods, oars, and golf clubs, was being applied for the first time in the world of lighting. Its circular base widens towards the top, where the light source is located. Thanks to an array of internal parabolic reflectors, Mite ensures optimal illumination, projecting an intense and warm beam of light towards the ceiling. The internal lighting, in turn, enhances the lamp’s design and slender form. Mite furnishes any space with an unobtrusive presence and elegant personality.
