To coincide with Sancal’s 40th anniversary, Silla40 was born. Its distinctive feature lies in its backrests, one for each decade of the brand’s history. Each one is inspired by a key historical moment in furniture design.

The R20 backrest symbolizes the avant-garde and is inspired by Marcel Breuer’s Cesca chair. The R30 backrest pays homage to 1930s Scandinavian design and is inspired by Alvar Aalto’s Chair 69. The R40 backrest represents the organic design of the 1940s and 60s and is inspired by the letter Z. The R70 backrest, in turn, is inspired by the Synthesis 45 chair that Ettore Sottsass designed for Olivetti. The Chair40 combines ash wood with upholstered seats and backrests.
