Urka is about simplifying, eliminating, reducing, removing… it's about filling the simplicity of a curved line with tiny, perfect details. Adhering to the "less is more" principle isn't always easy, but Urka shows us the way. The chair collection includes versions with arms, without arms, and versions with height-adjustable casters using gas pistons. The metal finishes are available in polished stainless steel or painted according to a color sample. Internal metal frame coated with injected polyurethane. The wooden frame is covered in foam and fiber. Suspension is provided by interwoven elastic webbing with varying tensions. Seat cushions are made with a polyurethane foam insert, padded with fiber and washed and sterilized down. Back cushions are filled with polyester fiber and washed and sterilized down. Riva 1920 products are made with solid wood from sustainably managed reforestation areas. Among the types of wood used are maple, cherry, oak, and walnut, but also reclaimed woods that Riva incorporates into its furniture production, reminding us that wood is a renewable but not inexhaustible resource: Kauri, the ancient wood of New Zealand; cedar; and the wood from briccole, the oak poles used in Venice as signals and tide indicators, which must be replaced periodically due to wear and tear.
