Italian design in injection-moulded plastic
Kartell was founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli and is based in Noviglio, near Milan. In 1988 Claudio Luti, son-in-law of Giulio and Anna Castelli Ferrieri, acquired the company, and today he shares its direction with his children Lorenza and Federico. The brand specialises in furniture and design objects produced mainly through industrial plastic injection, with a Made in Italy focus. In 1999 Philippe Starck presented La Marie, the first transparent polycarbonate chair, the same year the Kartell Museum opened for the fiftieth anniversary. Polycarbonate 2.0 and Bio are proprietary certified materials, and when wood is used it comes entirely from FSC-certified forests.
