Sancal: family-run furniture from Yecla, Spain
Sancal began in 1973 as a family business during Spain's transition to democracy. Its first product was the María Antonieta armchair, designed that year by Santiago Castaño. In 2007 the second generation, Esther and Elena Castaño-López, joined the company and now lead Estudio Sancal and its artistic direction. Every piece is Made in Spain, produced in two of the company's own factories in Yecla, Murcia. The 19,000-square-metre plant runs on solar panels and holds ISO 14001 certification and the Indoor Advantage Gold label. In 2024 Sancal received Spain's National Design Award, and its products now reach more than 90 countries.
